Dear Lilly,
The wild shepherd's purse has tiny white flowers. I have never seen small purple flowers before. Maybe just different varieties. Please check 02/20/2010 farm blog to see the flower shape and arrangement. You may pluck a little bit of the green and put it on the tip of your tongue to test if it is poisonous or not.
Dandelion has large yellow flowers, though its leaves look quite the same as wild shepherd's purse's.
In case you find them, get rid of the flower stems before cooking. The flower stems are tough.

Dear Farmer,
We tried to identify the wild Shephard's purse in our back yard. Based on the pictures that you provided before, we found some similar ones - the leaves has irregular zig-zag edges. Our question is that does the wild Shephard's purse have small purple flowers? Thank you for your answer.
