You said, “Let’s meet when the peaches blossom.”
I told you, “The first in bud I’ll inform.”
Shortly,     the glaring peach flowers will go in riot,
My pretty lady!      What is your whereabouts?

妳說, “我們相約桃花開放時.”
我說, “桃花初綻, 我定告知.”
桃花炫艷           將怒放,
伊人兒!         遊蹤何芳?

  1. Chris says:

    Peach Blossom at Dalin Temple
By Bai Juyi – Tang Dynasty. 772 to 846 AD

In June of the human realm, all fragrant and beautiful flowers have disappeared,

But the mountain temple’s peach blossoms have just begun to bloom.

I have always complained spring is nowhere to be found when it is gone.

I didn’t know that spring simply moved up here.

  2. I Like Bai Juyi. His poems are easy to catch.
Thank you for the beautiful poem.
Did you find spring in you garden?

  3. Chris says:

Li Bai and Bai Juyi are enjoyable even in translations because they are so simple to read and everyone can see their own life visualized in them. You are lucky to read them in the original which should be much more powerful.

Our nectarine blossoms are out; also the freesia flowers are just starting. Only two daffidols are flowering but more getting ready.

I think some of our bulbs are in too wet ground and too much shade; they either produce late or not at all. We might move them to dryer ground later in year.

  4. Li Bai and Bai Juyi are the precious in Chinese literary. Almost every Chinese knows one or two of their poems which are easy to memorize. I’m happy for you enjoying their poems from translation.

It looks like spring has already come to your beautiful garden. Have a good time working in the garden!
