The titbids of the farm-The swallow nest

Swallows come to the farm in spring.
One swallow couple built their nest at corner eaves of the farm house.  They took a bite of the field soil and flew to the pond to drink a mouthful of the water, according to some ratio, and mixed them into a chunk of clod which was not too dry and not too wet.
They busily flew between the field and the pond, the pond and the farm house, and skillfully made the tiny mud clods one after one to construct their nest at corner eaves.
When the day passed, they had piled a semi-round shaped wall.  It was not high enough, but one could almost figure out the future nest.
After several days, a cone shaped nest appeared.
The swallow couple started laying, hatching and feeding their chicks.
Every spring, the swallows come back to the old nest which is solid.  They will not get rid of it.  With a little renovation, it is still good for reuse.

農場小故事-燕子窩

春天到了, 燕子飛來農場.
一對燕子夫婦在農舍的屋簷角做窩.  牠們先去農地啄一口田土, 再飛到池塘含一口池水, 按照某種比例, 水土混合, 調配出
一塊不太濕也不太乾的泥塊.
牠們忙碌的飛翔在農地與池塘, 池塘與農舍之間, 精工製造小小的水泥塊.  一塊連一塊, 堆砌在牆角.
一天過去, 牠們堆出不算太高的小半圓形泥牆, 隱約可見窩的形狀.
幾天後, 圓錐型的燕窩出現了.
燕子夫婦開始生蛋孵蛋, 哺育幼雛.
每年春天, 燕子回到老窩.  老窩牢固, 不捨遺棄, 稍加整頓, 仍可繼續使用.

The titbids of the farm-The carp

Nung-fu caught a large carp from the pond.
He put the carp in a nylon bag, tied it with a string and soaked it in the pond.
The carp swam around in the bag finding a way out.
Nung-fu cast again.  He knew the bag was well tied and the carp would never get away.
The carp wiggled its body hard, the bag floated up and down in the water.  For not too long, the string came loose and the bag opened.
Nung-fu could not catch any more.   He put the fish pole away and went to get the carp in the water.
Nothing was in the bag.

農場小故事- 鯉魚不見了

農夫從池塘釣起一條大鯉魚.
他將鯉魚放進尼龍網袋, 網口的繩索收緊, 再把整個網袋浸入池塘.
鯉魚在網袋中游來游去, 想鑽出網袋.
農夫又甩竿釣魚.  他很放心網袋有繩索收口, 鯉魚絕不會鑽出去.
鯉魚用盡全力扭曲身子, 水中網袋飄盪不定.  沒多久, 繩索鬆動, 網袋開了口.
農夫一直沒有魚獲, 便放下魚竿, 走去提取網中鯉魚.
網袋空無一物.

The titbids of the farm-The root of the fava bean plant

Lots of fava bean seedlings were planted in the field.
The fava bean plants grew taller and taller.  Little white flowers among the green leaves burst forth.
The flowers bloomed, and faded away.
Breeze from the field, fava bean leaves waved high.
The baby fave beans were as long as segments of the thumbs nodding with the leaves, nestling among them.
When they fully grown and ripened in the pod, everyone’s favorite, were sweet and good to eat.
After harvest, Nung-fu cleared the fava bean field, their roots were plowed out.  It is rather special, the white root nodules of fava bean plants fix the nitrogen in the atmosphere to accumulate the quantity of nitrogen in the soil which is good to the plants.
Hardly any one knows that the roots of the fava bean plants do a great work in sober earnest underneath.
農場小故事-蠶豆根

田裡長了許多蠶豆苗.
蠶豆苗一天天長高, 綠葉中開出朵朵小白花.
花開了, 花謝了.
田野起風了.  蠶豆葉浪盛大.  一截一截姆指般長的幼蠶豆翻湧葉間, 若隱若現.
幼蠶豆長熟了.  豆莢裡面甜美好吃的蠶豆, 人人喜愛.
蠶豆收成後, 農夫耕犁整地, 埋在土中的蠶豆根被犁出來.  蠶豆根很特別, 上面有白色顆粒狀根瘤菌, 可固定空氣中的氮氣, 增加土壤含氮量, 肥沃田土, 幫助作物成長.
蠶豆根在土中默默的對農地有益, 鮮少人知.
